Last Tuesday, the Women@Krones networking event continued with a new round. This time, the focus was on India – especially the role of women in India – and in line with the theme of this session, Krones also opened up the circle of participants, welcoming for the first time female colleagues from all over the world.
The talk focused on a myriad of topics regarding India – from arranged marriages and social subordination to professional success and social prestige. It also made us realize that the role of women in India is highly diverse and so are the social and professional possibilities of an Indian woman. Not only does it depend on origin and family background, but also on the individual self-confidence, ambition and, above all, the courage to change.
It was precisely this ambivalence that Dr. Walter Lindner explained to almost 200 participants (both physically and virtually) from the Krones networking event Women@Krones during his thrilling and entertaining presentation. He talked about his time as the German ambassador to India, compared the traditional and the modern image of women in India and thus drew attention on the differences which are still present in this fast-developing country. In doing so, he also gained surprised looks, since many of the participants weren’t conscious about how complex the role of a women still is in the world’s most populated country. And so, his short lecture quickly turned into a lively exchange about the contrasts between Germany and India, the rights of women and the differences in emancipation.
For the first time, we had international colleagues participating in an event of the women’s network Women@Krones – and there was great interest as evidenced by roundabout 120 virtual participants from all over the Krones world. In Bengaluru, for example, 20 female colleagues joined a “public viewing event” in the Krones Digital Solution India’s office. And they were delighted by Mr. Lindner’s talk which, in their eyes, reflected the truth without stereotypes bringing forth a well-rounded perspective of the benefits as well as the challenges of being an Indian woman in the modern-day society.
